Repurpose Recycling FAQs

  • Plastic is very light compared to most materials, it can be quite surprising just how much 10 pounds of plastic actually is. 10 pounds of plastic is the equivalent of about 470 16-ounce water bottles or 80 gallon-sized milk jugs.

  • We work to be very transparent about when and where we collect our plastic. Check out our updates page to check out our progress!

  • Guatemala has high amounts of mismanaged waste, and a lot of that waste ends up in the ocean. There are a few contributing factors to this mismanaged waste issue in Guatemala. Here are a few of these reasons:

    1. Many rural areas of Guatemala don’t have any garbage collection, because of this residents in these areas have to burn their trash or find a place to dump it.

    2. Most of the landfills in Guatemala are not contained. This means that lots of the garbage dumped in these landfills escapes into the local environment eventually making it to the ocean.

    3. Because of these issues, the best way to cause systemic change is to provide an opportunity for everyone to recycle that waste.

    4. Guatemala also has high poverty and unemployment rates. Bringing our recycling solution to Guatemala helps bring jobs and extra income to those that need it most.

  • Our model is very similar to Doordash or Uber which means our collectors can make as much or little as they want to depend on how much they work. Most of our collectors collect plastic as a part-time job to supplement their income.

Repurpose Recycling significantly improves the income of all those that we work with!
